As a part of the programme, you will be using our dedicated simulation suite/skills labs. We have a dedicated activities of daily living suite including fully adaptable kitchen, bathroom and bedroom plus other rooms which we use for such activities as creative skills and the fabrication of orthoses.
You will also be using our four and six bed ward. These replicate what you would find within a hospital environment, and are ‘safe’ areas for you to practice your skills. This will help increase your knowledge and confidence and enable you to prepare for your placements.
We have state of the art SimMan to replicate real people, alongside some specialised software to ensure that you are working to the optimum benefit of your ‘client’.
Other facilities include:
- A fully equipped operating theatre with anaesthetic equipment, an observation room and scrub room
- Fully operational radiography suite and dark room with facilities for digital imaging which is linked with a 40 person IT suite so that images can be viewed immediately
- Maternity and child nursing room complete with SimBaby
- A range of equipment to support cardiology and minimally invasive surgery students
You can get a sample of the many ways that all of our health and social care students engage with our Skills Lab from the recent filming from Meridian TV here
